December 2024: Racing to the Finish Line

With November being completely hectic due to my Thanksgiving vacation, December was all about getting caught up. With Christmas and New Year's, it wasn't all work, but close to it.

Campfire

Like November, December tends to be a good month for Campfire financially, and this year was no exception. We did not manage to release the big update that we planned on launching, though, and it'll go out on January 8th instead.

I spent the majority of December working on two things: the update (frantically fixing issues and making improvements on the new wallets & carts system for buying books, reviewing code and testing the changes to our word processor, preparing a staging environment, etc) and Kraken's Guide to The House Witch, the special edition ebook that Campfire is partnering with Delemhach to produce and release on the platform. I wrote something like 15,000 words of it in December, and did a lot of organization and presentation for it.

In January, I'll be launching the update, getting Kraken's Guide over the finish line, and building an update to the Languages Module that our customers use to create made-up languages for their fantasy and sci-fi titles.

Trophy

I built a decent amount of features here, and also introduced a very unfortunate bug that caused some Campfire users to get the same email every thirty minutes for like 8 hours. That was a shame. But I fixed it and apologized and everyone seemed to move on OK.

In January we'll resume sales outreach (paused in December due to the holiday season) and I'll be building a bunch of fancy new features like push notifications. We'll also be forming the legal entity (!)

Startup Poznan

Hosted another meetup at the beginning of the month. It was pretty good, nothing crazy. We have one more at the beginning of January and then I'm going to try to host a co-working one instead of a beers one, and see about actually getting some of these folks to build and launch something, instead of just talk about it.

Plans for January

• Deploy carts/wallets + manuscript update for Campfire
• Build Languages Module update for Campfire
• Publish more of RJ Blain's titles on Campfire
• Finish Kraken's Guide to The House Witch
• Get another Trophy customer or two, build v2 update
• Host another Startup Poznan meetup
