January 2025: Kicking Off The New Year

Posting this late because, shocker, I've been pretty busy. The new year always comes with a lot to do at Campfire while we finish all the prior year's reporting, finalize the strategy for the coming year, and make sure everyone is rowing in the right direction.

Personal Life

My cousin and some friends came to visit from Portugal, and we traveled all over Poland and visited Berlin. I drank a big-ass mug of beer and thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Campfire

We finally launched the carts/wallets/manuscript update and it went mostly without a hitch. So that's good! Readers are already topping up their wallets to buy ebooks, though activity there is still low and will remain low until we see our influx from Kraken's Guide to The House Witch later in the year.

I published the remaining RJ Blain titles as well, so the ebook catalog grew. And Kraken's Guide to The House Witch is all sorted and planned out, though some work on the interior is still pending input from the author. We have time though, as the release will only be in April. In January I finished all ~50k words of written content. And I moved forward on getting Bridget E. Baker's titles on Campfire, which should happen in February once all the artwork is completed.

On the engineering side, I began work on the next Campfire update, though I can't say I made much progress since I spent the majority of my engineering time on bugfixes and QoL improvements.

Trophy

Unfortunately we failed to find a customer, so we are still operating with only Campfire using the product. We sent a decent amount of cold email, trying various approaches, but couldn't find any that worked.

I built improved analytics, standalone achievements, and gave the whole app a UI refresh.

The priority going forward is on figuring out how to get in front of more potential customers.

Startup Poznan

Hosted a meetup at the beginning of January, good as usual, nothing special to report. In February we have our first coworking meetup with a smaller group of folks with active projects/startups that they're working on. Looking forward to that one, should be very different from just grabbing beers.

Plans for February

  • Finish Campfire's Update 38 and keep pushing out fixes & improvements, particularly to the publishing flow
  • Publish Bridget E. Baker and send a bunch of emails to authors pitching them on joining Campfire
  • Finalize all artwork for Kraken's Guide to The House Witch except for the scene illustration, and stay on top of all feedback/input from Delemhach
  • Get a Trophy customer
  • Host the Startup Poznan coworking meetup
